Optum AI

Intelligence built for healthcare, by healthcare

Optum, the health services arm of UnitedHealth Group, had spent years building AI inside healthcare’s most complex systems. But outside the company, few people knew it. As the category filled with general-purpose models and louder promises, Optum needed to define its AI story before the market defined it for them.

General-purpose models don’t understand how healthcare works. That intelligence lives inside the operational details: the prior authorization that needs context, the denied claim that needs review, and the doctor’s note finished at 11 p.m. Optum had something training data alone could not reproduce—experience inside the workflows themselves. That became the heart of the brand: intelligence built for healthcare, by healthcare.

We took Optum’s signature orange and turned it all the way up. OptumAI is Optum at full power. Its growing family of models take their names from Greek mythology, giving them scale, character, and consequence. Then we gave the brand two new platforms: The Signal, a weekly podcast about healthcare AI in production, and Optima ’26, a three-day conference in Minneapolis where payers and providers openly exchange insights. In a category crowded with demos, Optum AI brings the realities of production into the public.
